Miami Travel Guide

Lifeguards, white-sand beaches, turquoise sea… Miami is much more than that.
Maybe you are travelling to Miami for a week, for a few days only, in order to hop on a cruise through the Caribbean, or maybe because it is just your stop over to get to your final destination… It does not matter! In this post you will find the most exciting city of Florida’s travel guide. After reading it you will finally know what to see, what to visit and what to do during your holidays in Miami.
What is the best time of the year to travel to Miami?

Many of you ask me about what is the best time of the year to visit Miami. It is from November to April. At the beginning of September is reaaaally hot. The humidity percentage is so high that it’s impossible to be around in the streets. Even during night time. Needless to say that it’s even the hurricane season. It starts 1st June and lasts till the end of November. It doesn’t mind if you’re planning your holidays for that period of time, it can actually mess up your trip, but you must not obsess over it.

Finally, from the end of October you can feel how temperatures change for good. You can spend time outside without melting. No doubt the freshest months are January and February.

Transport in Miami

If you come to Miami you cannot be thinking about using public transport to visit the city. It’s not very common. It nearly doesn’t exist. Everyone moves with their own car. If you are coming for a few days and it’s not worth renting a car, don’t worry, you can use Uber. It’s not that expensive. All the interesting places are closed by if you only have a few days to visit.

Around Brickell you can find a train that drives between the skyscrapers. It’s called MetroMover and it’s free for everyone, but it only works around Brickell, Downtown and it gets to the American Airlines Arena and Bayside.

On the other hand, if you want to go to Sawgrass Mills, there’s a shuttle that leaves from Miami. It costs $25 per person roundtrip. You have to book in advance. In the link you will find all the necessary details.

Where to stay

If you are coming to visit Miami, I would recommend you to stay in Miami Beach. Especially if you really want to feel the Miami atmosphere and enjoy the beach. It doesn’t mind if you can’t afford a beachfront hotel in South Beach. There are many more hotels where you can stay within the area and still easily walk or drive to the main attractions. I think all the restaurants and nightclubs are also around.

If you decide to stay in one of the famous hotels that face the beach, I would recommend you 1 Hotel South Beach. I haven’t stayed there but I have been to the rooftop to have dinner. In my opinion this is the most beautiful hotel in terms of decoration. It is really cute. In the rooftop you can find a restaurant and a pool with views to the beach.

If you don’t want to get mixed up in Miami Beach’s lifestyle, Brickell will be a good choice. As I said before, It’s a new zone with city hotels. It’s not a touristic place, but we’ve seen it growing recently. You can find so much leisure and restaurants offers here.

Finally, Coral Gables is also a good place to stay if you are searching for quiet hotels. You are away from all the Miami vibes and the touristic places.

South Beach.  If you are a beach lover you have to visit South Beach. Walk around the beach looking for your fave lifeguard booth. When you get tired you can use your towel and enjoy the beach or you can also rent a lounge in one of the hotels. All South Beach hotels have their own lounge & food service.

Ocean Drive  I think this is my fave spot. Pastel tones buildings, palms and Art Decó architecture. In this street you will find a sample of the Art Decó buildings. I recommend you to visit this place during day a night time. It changes a lot during night. It’s such a party!. There are many locals that offer huge cocktails. Go and sit in one terrace and enjoy the atmosphere. I warn you, I was almost charged $47 for a cocktail. Don’t be silly. It’s not worth it.

Visita hoteles  Even if you are not staying in a big hotel such us Faena, 1 Hotel, Fontaneubleu, or The Setai you can have access and stroll around. Many of them throw pool parties almost everyday. If you are on a budget and you can’t have dinner there you can just have a look. You will see all the cars that get to the hotel and people who show off on these places. It’s a show.

Lincoln Road  It’s a shopping strip. There are many restaurants and they have an organic food market every weekend.

Española Way  It’s another pedestrian street but this one is really cute during night time. The deco is so welcoming and it’s full of restaurants where you can have dinner.

Wynwood  A very entertaining place. It consists of many streets which are filled with graffitis. You can specially head to a place called «Wynwood Walls». There you will find a sample of better paintings. There are a lot of different stores around and it is also a good place to have a bite in Miami.

Design District It is closed to Wynwood. 3 or 4 streets full of designer stores. Even if you are not going to buy anything it is worth walking around and see the atmosphere and the stores deco.

Brickell It’s the new trendy Miami place. You can find a lot of stores and restaurants here. If you have never visited the United States before you can have a look around and be amazed by how tall the buildings are.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens  It is a huge house and beautiful gardens built by James Deering (International Harvester Company Vicepresident). He ordered to build an enormous house in a italian renaissance-era style. You will feel as if you were in Venice. It’s a great place to take pictures.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park I think it’s one of the cutest places in Miami. It’s in Key Biscayne. A State Park where you can find a quiet place out of the noisy Miami. You can climb up the lighthouse and enjoy the views.

Little Havana A few streets far away from Brickell you will feel in Cuba. There are so many souvenir shops and you will be able to admire dominos players. You can’t miss out Café Versailles and their world famous cuban sandwiches

Outlets  There’s nothing more famous in Florida than the Outlets. Sawgrass Mills is one hour away from Miami approximately and it’s the biggest outlet in the world. It also offers a village with designer stores where you can find discounts up to 70% off. Michael Kors, Coach, Tory Burch, Gucci, Prada, Versace, Furla, Maje, Sandro Paris, Tony Bahamas, etc. Bring an extra empty suitcase!.

NBA basketball match   It is a must if you are visiting the US. Even if you don’t like basketball, it is really worth it only to see the show they put up and the atmosphere. You will also enjoy the Miami Heat playing live.

I’m sure that I’ve left a lot behind but I will keep writing posts about Miami. Where to eat, best hotels in South Beach, where to go out in Miami and best rooftop bars, etc.
