Hello once again! I know it’s been a long time since I last posted about my trip to New York city, but I realized I left behind all the places I visited for food and therefore, my recommendations. New York is a very big city, offering a wide choice of restaurants so sometimes we don’t have a clue about where to go. In this post I will recommend some places to eat healthy in New York for everyone’s pocket, I’ll give prices for each restaurant, will talk about the best pancakes (couldn’t miss out on this one) and fast food places in the Big Apple.
If you have already read my recent post about my trip to New York you will probably know we only had 4 days to visit the big city. As we didn’t want to spend much time going for food or going for the easy food trucks that sell hotdogs and burgers, I searched for healthy and not so healthy restaurants in New York. Who doesn’t enjoy a sweet?
1. Blue Lane Coffee
This is a quick way to have a healthy breakfast. There are loads of locations around Manhattan. They usually are found in small cafés and during weekdays they get super crowded because they’re located close to offices buildings. The avocado toast (obviously) and the peanut butter, banana and jamón di parma toast are really nice. $12 per person appox.
2. Five Leaves
No doubt they’re the best pancakes I have ever tried in my whole life. This restaurant is in Brooklyn, pretty hidden and not touristic at all. It’s crowded with locals that come here on weekends to have this incredible dish. Ricotta pancakes. We ordered one for two as they’re massive. SO TASTY. It’s not a cheap dish but it’s really worth it. If I ever come back to New York I’m sure I’ll go back to this place again. $18 for the dish.
3. Jack’s Wife Freda
Jack’s Wife Freda is one of the trendiest spots right now in New York. I doesn’t matter the day you go, it will be crowded and there will be waiting list so I recommend you to go during weekdays to avoid the New York brunches. It’s very nice and they care a lot about the details. We ordered a Croque Madame and a waffle with strawberries. $18 per person. Click HERE to see the menu.
4. Black Tap New York
Well, well, well… I have nothing to say. According to what I read once, this place is usually pretty crowded and always has a 2h waiting line. We went to the location in SoHo in a weekday and we didn’t have to wait. My shake was the candy and strawberry one and the other was chocolate cookie & cream. I have to say that the cookie one was a lot nicer. I couldn’t finish it and they’re expensive so I recommend sharing. $15 per shake.
5. By CHLOE
I think this is one of my fave spots in New York for food. It’s a vegan fast food place. They change the fries for sweet potato fries, the carbonara for a pistachio pesto pasta and vegan burgers. The ketchup we all know becomes a ketchup made of beet and I don’t want to talk about the salads.. delicious. If you’re in a rush, this is the best place to go. $14 per person. Click HERE to see the menu.
6. The Butcher’s Daughter
This restaurant is also very well known. It’s a franchise also found in Los Angeles known by its vegan and gluten-free food. Honestly, I got really disappointed because of the price-portions relation. An avo toast $12 and a veggie «bowl «$15. Anyway, it was really nice and the place is very pretty.
7. Fiat Café
The best carbonara pasta I’ve eaten. You only have to see that yolk on top. So nice. The dishes are massive and I couldn’t finish mine. $15 per person. Click HERE to see the menu.
And that’s all for the places I chose to visit to get some food during my trip to the Big Apple. I hope it’s been helpful for you and you liked it. I remind you again that you also have a post with my itinerary in New York.
I’m sure you have a lot of suggestions and many other restaurant choices in New York. Please don’t hesitate and leave a comment below!
