Roadtrip from Miami: Universal Studios Orlando

We decided to do something different in October and visit some place that wouldn’t mean to jump on a plane. Who doesn’t think about sitting on the car and drive to Orlando to visit Walt Disney and Universal Studios theme parks?. In this post I will talk about my experience, where to stay, tips, tickets price, where to eat in the parks, the bests attractions and how to get there.
Universal Studios

We left from Miami on Wednesday, we stopped by a gas station and we set off to Orlando. It was a 3h30min drive non-stop. If you’re driving at night get ready to clean the car off mosquitoes as they usually get sticked on it.

Where to eat at Disney Springs

We drove straight to Disney Springs to have dinner before going to the hotel. Disney Springs is a shopping area full of restaurants. To be honest, comparing Disneyland Paris to Disney Springs, the restaurant prices were quite affordable. We went to D-Lux Burguer. I was already feeling like a kid. The music, the deco, everything makes you feel like you’re in a movie. This is one of the most recommended spots for lunch in Disney Springs. The burguer & fries were really nice and the price was okay.

Where to stay?

When we finished having dinner we went straight to the hotel, Hilton Bonnet Creek. Our group of friends had already got there in the morning to enjoy Walt Disney World too. We couldn’t leave Miami until late afternoon so we didn’t visit this theme park. The next day, after having a good night sleep and having breakfast we drove to Universal Studios, 15 min away from the hotel. The Universal Studios parking costs $22.

Where to buy the cheapest tickets?

We bought the tickets in the park because we decided to make that trip the day before, but if you’re visiting the park I recommend you to buy the tickets through their website as the fees are quite lower. We got the 2 parks-1 day ticket (Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios) The ticket costs $180 per person plus the fast pass one ($80). It’s expensive, but you save up a lot of time and you can try all the attractions in only one day.

Universal Studios

Once you walk in the park you suddenly see yourself on a movie. We were already on our way to the Despicable Me attraction. All of them are incredible. I highly recommend to start by the Universal Studios theme park if you only have one day to visit both. The best attractions for me are Rip Ride Rock It, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter-Diagon Alley and The Escape from Gringots, The Simpsons Ride, Jimmy Fallon Show, Transformer and King Kong.

We had lunch in this park, in the restaurant found in Diagon Alley. It’s the same dining area as the one in the Harry Potter movie, so it’s normally pretty crowded.

Universal Studios

When we finished visiting this theme park at about 15.00pm we took the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts. This train links Universal Studios with Islands of Adventure. It really seems you’re going to Hogwarts and the special effects are amazing. Plus, when you get to the other park the views are magical with the Hogwarts castle in the background.

When we arrived we went straight to Harry Potter and The Forbidden Journey. This was no doubt my fav. When we left we walked around Hogwarts on our way to Jurassic Park.

Hogwarts Express

The best thing you can do in this park is to wander around Hogwarts and enjoy the decoration and the details. Here you will find Jurassic Park, Hulk, Spiderman and some other water attractions. We went to see the kid zone at 19.00pm to see the sunset views.

Finally we decided to go back to the hotel, have a shower and leave to have dinner at Disney Springs. We were super tired and hungry. We went to a pizza restaurant also very much recommended called Blaze Pizza. I loved it. You can choose the ingredients for your pizza, the cheese, the sauce, the proteins, the vegetables, simply everything. The price was very affordable too.

The next morning we left the hotel and went back to Miami. You will be able to find the post about Miami in this link.

Jurassic Park
Lard Donuts Universal Studios
Universal Studios Orlando
Despicable Me Universal Studios
Islands of Adventure

Aaaaand that’s all. I hope I can spend a bit more time there next time as we would have loved to visit Walt Disney too.

TIP:  If you are going to visit Universal Studios in October as we did, think about enjoying one halloween night that’s celebrated during this month for Terror Nights Universal Studios. When we left the park a lot of people were coming in to explore the world of Stranger Things and many other attractions that are only available throughout this month. The ticket costs about $80.

I hope you liked it and see you next time!
